Without the earth wire, if a fault occurs and the live wire becomes loose, there is a danger that it will touch the case. The next person who uses the appliance could get electrocuted . The earth wire is therefore connected to the case and is attached to a metal plate or water pipe underground.

Earthing is an essential requirement of any electrical installation and is covered within the safety requirements of BS 7671. If the house is not earthed, it can be extremely dangerous, and people could get electrocuted.

The earthing wires are essentially made from best quality copper or GI that can be used in various electrical, electronic and automobile instruments. They are made from top quality galvanized metals that provides high durability and great shock resistance.

Any conducting wires can be used for grounding. Aluminum is allowed. Copper is preferable.

he earth wire should never be live unless there’s a fault in the system. There shouldn’t be any any risk of electrocution in the enclosure since no-one should have the cover off without isolating the mains beforehand.

The ground (earth) wire is not meant to carry current. It is a safety circuit that is meant to ground the body of the electrical box and the device you have plugged in to it. It keeps the device at the voltage level of the ground so that you, and the device are at the same potential.
